Where to find an appliance model number

The model number is usually printed on a paper label or metal plate. It is different from the serial number and is the safest way to match manuals, error codes, parts, and recalls.

Why the model number matters

Manufacturers reuse product names across many models. Error-code meanings, filter access, reset methods, and recall ranges can change by model. A photo or careful copy of the label prevents one character from becoming another.

Common label locations

Where to look

Washing machine

Inside the door opening, under the lid, on the rear edge of the control area, or on the back panel.

Dishwasher

Along the left, right, or top edge of the tub opening, or on the inside edge of the door.

Dryer

Inside the door opening, on the cabinet frame, near the control area, or on the back panel.

Refrigerator

Inside the fresh-food compartment, on a side wall, ceiling, door frame, or behind a lower drawer.

Copy it accurately

Model number checklist

  • Photograph the full label in good light.
  • Copy spaces, slashes, periods, and suffixes.
  • Keep model and serial numbers separate.
  • Check whether the label shows a region suffix such as /AA or /AC.
