Try these checks in order
Exact controls and access points differ by model. Stop when a step does not match your appliance or manual.
- 1
Reduce the load
Remove heavy or oversized items and test with two or three light towels.
What you want: The drum is not overloaded. - 2
Check the door
Clear the latch and close the door firmly.
What you want: The door switch can engage normally. - 3
Look for a visible trapped item
With power disconnected, inspect the front edge of the drum for a loose drawstring or small garment. Do not reach behind the drum.
What you want: Nothing visible is pinched at the front seal. - 4
Reset the controls
Unplug for one minute, reconnect, and select a timed cycle.
What you want: The controls restart normally. - 5
Turn the empty drum gently only if the manual allows
With power disconnected, some manuals allow a gentle hand check. Stop if it binds or scrapes.
What you want: The drum moves smoothly without force.
Stop and arrange help when
- The motor hums, smells hot, or the drum will not move.
- The drum sags, scrapes, or has a wide gap.
- A belt, motor, or roller check would require opening the cabinet.
- There is gas odor, smoke, or sparking.
If the problem remains
